Multimodal Search Insights Added To Search Console
  • New Multimodal Search Data: Search Console now reports performance from Google Lens, Circle to Search, image uploads, and Chrome's “Search this image” feature.
  • Better Visual Search Insights: Website owners can use the new filter in Performance reports to understand how users discover their content through image-based searches.

Google has added multimodal search data to Search Console, giving website owners more visibility into how users discover their content through image-based searches.

The new reporting is available in the Search results Performance report and the Generative AI features report. It covers searches where users interact with Google using images instead of traditional text queries.

What Does Multimodal Search Data Include?

The new multimodal search type filter covers several visual search methods, including:

  • Google Lens searches
  • Circle to Search on Android
  • Image uploads in Google Search
  • Chrome's “Search this image” option

This means site owners can now see when their content receives search visibility or traffic through these visual search experiences.

How To Access The New Data

Website owners can open the Performance reports in Google Search Console and select the new multimodal search type filter.

The data can also be exported from Search Console. This allows publishers and site owners to combine it with data from other analytics and reporting tools.

Why This Update Matters

Google Search is increasingly combining text, images and other formats to help users find information. Multimodal search allows people to start a search using visual content, such as an image captured with a smartphone camera.

The new reporting gives publishers more insight into how their pages and visual content perform across these search experiences.

Google said the feature is rolling out globally. However, the new metrics will only appear for sites that receive traffic from relevant multimodal searches.

Google Asks For Feedback

Google is also inviting website owners to share their feedback about the new reporting through the Submit feedback option in Search Console or the Google Search Central Community.
