Google Renames NotebookLM User Agent To Google-GeminiNotebook

Google has renamed the Google-NotebookLM user agent to Google-GeminiNotebook following the rebranding of NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook. Developers who have hardcoded the old user agent name are advised to update it to avoid potential bugs. However, Google confirmed it will continue supporting the old user agent during the transition.

Google first introduced the Google-NotebookLM user agent in October 2025. With the product now renamed, the user agent has also been updated to reflect the new branding.

Google Updates User Agent Following Gemini Notebook Rebrand

Google announced the update, saying:

"Updated the NotebookLM user agent to be Google-GeminiNotebook. If you hardcoded the old value in your code, update the string to avoid potential bugs. We will continue to support the old value to allow for a smooth transition."

This means any code using Google-NotebookLM should be updated to Google-GeminiNotebook. Google's Shauvik Kumar also highlighted the change, confirming that NotebookLM is now Gemini Notebook.

Gemini Notebook Expands Across Google's Ecosystem

Google first introduced NotebookLM as Project Tailwind at Google I/O 2023 to help people learn and research more effectively. The company says the platform is now used by more than 30 million people and over 600,000 organizations, with businesses creating onboarding materials and students converting notes into audio and video summaries.

Despite the name change, Gemini Notebook will continue as a standalone research tool while becoming more integrated across Google's ecosystem, including the Gemini app and Google Search.

Google has also started rolling out an upgrade that gives every notebook a secure cloud computer. This allows Gemini Notebook to write and execute code natively, making complex data analysis based on users' sources possible. At present, the upgrade is available to Google AI Ultra subscribers and Google Workspace business users with AI Ultra Access or AI Expanded Access. Google said it plans to extend the feature to Gemini Pro users on the web over the next few weeks.

Users can already create and access notebooks inside the Gemini app with cross-app syncing, and Google confirmed that notebooks will soon be available in AI Mode in Google Search. The company also thanked users who have supported the platform since its launch as Project Tailwind in 2023 and said it will continue expanding the Gemini Notebook experience with new features.
