Google Explains Why Some Crawled Pages Stay Unindexed Due to Quality Issues

Google has clarified that content quality is one of the main reasons pages remain under the "Crawled – Currently Not Indexed" status in Google Search Console. According to John Mueller and Martin Splitt, Google may crawl a page but choose not to index it if it doesn't meet the quality threshold.

Google has explained why some webpages remain under the "Crawled – Currently Not Indexed" status in Google Search Console. During the latest Search Off the Record podcast, Google's John Mueller and Martin Splitt said content quality plays a major role in indexing. This news was first reported by SEO Roundtable.

According to Mueller, if the content of a page is weak, unhelpful, or not adding value at all, such pages could be shown in the Google Search Console under the category "Crawled-Not Indexed. " This happens when Google visits the page but decides that it does not want to show the page in its search results.

The discussion also extended to AI-generated content. Google stated that it is not automatically wrong to use AI-generated content. But, if a piece of content that has been generated by AI is perceived as generic, lacks creativity, or is just repetitive and doesn't add value, it is unlikely to gain the trust of Google.

Mueller said that if a webpage does not have any unique information that no one else can write, Google has a very limited reason for indexing it.

In addition to these, Google suggests that you put more emphasis on original content, which should be helpful and created for the user rather than to please search engines. Having strong content quality features boosts the chance of pages being added to the index.

This is not a new guideline. Google has repeatedly advised website owners to publish valuable content that adds something different from existing search results.
