Google has redesigned the Google Image Search homepage for the first time in years. Instead of showing only a search box, the new homepage now displays a dynamic gallery of images that updates in real time based on users' interests. The update comes as Google Image Search celebrates its 25th anniversary. This news is based on information first published by Search Engine Land.
The search experience remains unchanged, with the search bar still available at the top. Users can continue searching with text, voice, or images. However, the homepage now offers a more visual browsing experience, helping users discover ideas before they even start a search.
What's Changing in Google Images?

- A more visual homepage: The plain homepage with just a search bar is being replaced with a gallery of image collections. Users will see different image suggestions as soon as they open Google Images.
- Save images into collections: Users can now create and organise image collections. This makes it easier to save ideas and revisit them later.
- Built-in AI image creation: Google has added the Nano Banana feature, allowing users to type a prompt directly into the search bar and generate AI images without leaving Google Images.
New Homepage Focuses on Visual Discovery
The Main change is the introduction of a personal image gallery on the home page. Google says that the gallery is continuously refreshed with images from across the internet and it is customised based on the interests of each user.
Users can even continue to save Google Images to Google Collections while browsing. Those saved collections are shown as tabs at the top of the gallery, so users can easily go back to topics or ideas they want to think about more or get inspiration from.
Google claims the new version is an effort to transform Image Search from mere search destination to an inspirational and creative tool for the users.
Rollout Begins in the U.S.
The new Google Images homepage will begin rolling out over the coming weeks. Initially, it will be available on desktop for signed-in users in the United States using English.
To start with, international users will continue to view the older version of the Google Images homepage until the update reaches their areas.
