Google is rolling out a series of experiments across Discover, Search, AI Mode and advertising this week. The latest tests include a new Read Later Queue in Google Discover, AI-generated descriptions for product ads, fresh AI Mode interface changes, and additional search experience updates.
Google Discover Tests a Read Later Queue
Google is testing a Read Later Queue carousel at the top of the Discover feed on mobile. The feature lets users quickly access articles they've previously saved using the Save button. Tapping the bookmark icon also opens all saved Discover articles in one place.
The feature was spotted by Damien Andell, who shared a preview on X. It is currently being tested and is not yet widely available.
More AI and Search Experiments
Google is also testing several AI-powered experiences across Search:
- AI-generated descriptions for product ads (Mobile): Product ads now display a "Generating insights with AI" message before showing AI-generated summaries to help users understand products faster.
- AI Mode inside the desktop search bar: Instead of appearing only on the homepage, the AI Mode button is now being tested within the search bar after users refine their searches.
- Ask Anything box for AI Mode (Mobile): Google is testing an Ask Anything search box positioned beside the free product listings grid.
- Rich cards in AI Mode: New content formats, including Expert Buying Guides, Product Documentation carousels, and Clinical Guides, are appearing in AI Mode results.
- Further Exploration in AI Overviews: AI Overviews are testing a new section that recommends related topics and resources for deeper research.
These updates mean that Google is still working on changing the ways people find content, use the AI search and find products through search. All of these features are in the test phase.
